As a distributor of chemical products, the company’s product portfolio encompasses more than 26,000 standard and specialty chemicals. A large share of these are industrial chemicals, including acids and lyes.
The continuous delivery of supplies to the Gablingen site is made possible by the site’s rail connection to the Deutsche Bahn (German rail network). The site is well-connected, directly adjacent to the rail route to Munich.
Until recently, two employees switched up to eight times a day to get up to 50,000 tons of cargo, loaded onto 850 tank wagons, onto the site. They were assisted by an old Unimog, which had seen better days.
The successor of the Unimog was purchased following a successful trial period last year. Since March, the new ROTRAC E4 has been assisting with deliveries by rail. The employees who work with it every day are impressed by the new switcher. “I no longer need to refuel or wait until one of my colleagues has time for switching. That saves us a lot of time,” says Bernd Schnitzlein from the Acids & Lyes department.
The new tractor unit is fully electric and can be operated by only one person. The powerful two-way switcher can pull trailer loads of up to 500 tones and is operated via remote control. The switching crew is extremely pleased: “This modernization will make our work so much easier.”
