LORAMA

Lorama LPR® 76

STOCKMEIER Spezialchemie is always on the lookout for new and innovative products. Longer on the market, but still a speciality, are the LPR products from the company Lorama from Canada.

A cost saving of 5-10 % is assumed, with a simultaneous reduction of the VOC content of solvent-based alkyd resin systems. In addition, the raw materials are largely made from natural raw materials.

The secret lies in the incorporation of up to 40 % water into the formulation with the help of polysaccharide resins. For this purpose, a premix (Emulsion Intermediate) is prepared, which consists of alkyd resin, solvent, defoamer, polysaccharide resin and water. Sounds like extra work, but the emulsion is stable for a long time and can thus be produced for several approaches. Depending on the alkyd resins used, up to 60 % water is possible in this premix. The ground material is prepared as usual and a reduced amount of alkyd resin is added. In the last step, the emulsion Intermediate is added; simple stirring is sufficient here. An addition of 20 % is standard, but can be adjusted individually. The total amount of alkyd resin can be reduced by the amount of polysaccharide resin, which leads to lower costs, but also to a reduced use of solvents and siccatives. The hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharide resin together with the carbonyl groups of the alkyd resin form a high-molecular network, which improves the properties both in the wet paint and in the dry film. These include, among others, a possible increase in viscosity, a lower tendency to run, better adhesion to the substrate, higher hardness and a weaker tendency to yellowing.

Guide formulation Emulsion Intermediate

Components:

  1. Long oil alkyd resin (70 % FK)
  2. White spirit
  3. Lorama LAF® 120 (defoamer)
  4. Lorama LPR® 76 or polysaccharide-resin LPR® 221
  5. Water

Two types of LPR are available, depending on the alkyd resin used:

LPR® 76 for medium to long oil alkyd resin lacquers, 86 % bio-based.
LPR® 221 for short oil alkyd resin lacquers, 100 % bio-based.

Mix components 1, 2 and 3 at low speed for 15 minutes.
Add LPR® 76 or LPR® 221 and stir for another 5 minutes.
Increase the peripheral speed to approx. 8 m/s, add water slowly and stir for another 30 minutes.

New supplier: Chemipol

New in the distribution of STOCKMEIER Chemie are the products of the Spanish company Chemipol, S. A.

Chemipol has been producing biocides for industry for over 40 years. In the field of coating materials, pot and dry film preservatives are offered. Much emphasis is placed on good advice so that the appropriate product can be selected and offered in each case. In order to find possible sources of contamination such as process water, ingredients, production and filling, Chemipol offers testing in its own laboratory or, for quick self-monitoring, the Chemipol-Biocheck®, which shows both bacteria and fungi.

Three product groups are offered for the coating sector:

1. BIOPOL

BIOPOL® relies on a wide range of well-known and proven active ingredients in various formulations for safe protection against unwanted microbiological growth. Applicable in all types of water-based industrial products in liquid state, e.g. paints, construction chemicals, resins, adhesives and printing inks.

BIOPOL® Boostech® is a new range of preservatives. Boostech® reduces the surface tension of the cell walls so that the biocidal agents can attack more quickly and kill the microorganisms. The use of BIOPOL® with Booster® technology enables
a lower concentration of biocidal agents in the final product and allows the use of milder antimicrobial agents, reducing the side effects associated with biocides such as sensitisation, irritation and labelling.

2. FUNGIPOL

FUNGIPOL® dry film preservatives are formulated with carefully selected substances that have proven their effectiveness in decades of use and thousands of microbiological exposure tests. They are available for both exterior and interior use.

FUNGIPOL® CP with MET (Micro-Encapsulation Technology) is a further development in which the biocidal active ingredients are protected from external influences by a polymer capsule. This ensures a long-term release of the biocides. The classification of the final product is reduced, as only a small amount of biocidal active ingredient is present in the liquid coating material.

3. SANIPOL 103

SANIPOL® 103 is the most common representative of this series. With it, it is possible to cold sterilise water, raw materials or even the end product. It is fully effective after only 24 hours and is completely hydrolysed after 72 hours, so that it does not need to be included in the documentation.

SANIPOL® 175 is used to disinfect equipment such as reactors and filling machines. The removal of biofilms is supported. Chemipol's biocidal products comply with the current status of the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) and are manufactured with active ingredients from approved suppliers.

5 questions to ...

Andreas Legin

Sales, andreas.legin@stockmeier.com

1. How did you come to STOCKMEIER?

Through my personal contact with Mr Hussin. The STOCKMEIER company is very well known in the industry. After initial discussions, I was immediately enthusiastic about the vision and future of STOCKMEIER and wanted to become part of the success story.

2. What excites you about your sales job?

I have already been working in sales for nine years. To be more precise, I work in field sales. I particularly like the personal customer contact and the technical discussions with the developers. I'm particularly attracted by the problems customers pose, because new challenges always represent an opportunity for me. I'm particularly excited about starting new projects with customers.

3. What is your role in the CASE Team?

I work in the CASE team as Sales Manager for Southern Germany. My tasks include discussing technical issues with our customers and coordinating commercially with our office staff.

4. To what extent do you want to offer customers added value?

As a team, we want to advise our customers in the best possible way and assist them in finding solutions to their problems. In recent years, we have had many shortages in the market. Here it was important, on the one hand, to keep the customers informed about the current market situation for existing business and, on the other hand, to also be able to offer alternative options for existing raw material shortages. Since the market situation has normalised in many areas, it is now all the more important for our customers to start again with innovative developments. I would like to support my customers in this in the best possible way.

5. What do you do in your free time to balance things out?

In my free time, I like to spend a lot of time with my family in nature. I have two sons aged four and six. We like to play football and basketball together.
