Fuel ethanol solutions: liquefaction process

Description

Liquefaction breaks down the starch into shorter chains called dextrins (dextrinization) to avoid gelatinization (hydration and swelling of starch granules resulting in maximum viscosity).

The three main goals are

  • Reduce viscosity
  • Solubilize starch
  • Run consistently

Types of enzymes

Alpha-amylases primary enzyme
Proteases, phytases, xylanasesperformance-enhancing enzymes

Products

SPEZYME®a range of alpha-amylase enzymes and alpha-amylase blends
OPTIMASH®a range of accessory enzymes, including xylanases and proteases

Fuel ethanol solutions: saccharification & fermentation process

Description

Saccharification breaks down shorter glucose chains (dextrins) into fermentable sugars (glucose) where yeast then converts glucose to ethanol and CO₂ during fermentation.

The four main goals are

  • Dextrin conversion to glucose
  • Glucose consumption
  • Minimization of byproduct production
  • High ethanol production
