Modern in-can preservative for water-based systems
Water-based technical products such as paints, adhesives, or sealants are particularly susceptible to microbial contamination due to their high water content.
Without suitable protection, bacteria, yeasts, and molds can significantly impair the shelf life, quality, and processability of these products. With BIOPOL BA 9, Chemipol has developed a modern in-can preservative that has been specially designed to stabilize water-based systems.
The product is based on the proven biocidal active ingredient 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT), which is supplemented by a booster component. This enhances the effectiveness of the active substances and ensures a particularly broad antimicrobial effect. BIOPOL BA 9 has been proven effective against numerous relevant bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas fluorescens, as well as against fungi and yeasts, including Aspergillus sp., Candida albicans, Penicillium sp., Rhodotorula sp., and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
The main advantages of BIOPOL BA 9 include low toxicity, a VOC-free formulation, and cost efficiency thanks to the optimized ratio of active ingredient and booster. The product is completely water-soluble and remains stable in the pH range from 2 to 12. This makes it ideal for preserving emulsion paints, fillers, emulsions, adhesives, sealants, cleaning agents, and detergents. Its balanced composition also ensures a long-lasting effect without requiring sensitizing labeling at dosages below 0.5%.
The recommended concentration is between 0.1 and 0.5%, depending on the type of product to be protected and the respective environmental conditions. For optimal distribution, BIOPOL BA 9 should be added as early as possible in the production process, but it can also be used in later stages. After addition, the product remains stable at normal temperatures and pH values and has a shelf life of up to twelve months if stored in its original packaging in a cool, dry place between -5 °C and 35 °C.
Although BIOPOL BA 9 is classified as low toxicity, standard protective measures such as wearing gloves, safety goggles, and suitable clothing should be observed when handling it. As it is free from volatile organic compounds, it contributes to environmentally friendly, low-emission formulations.
Overall, BIOPOL BA 9 is an efficient, cost-effective, and safe solution for protecting water-based systems. By combining proven BIT active ingredients with modern booster technology, it offers reliable long-term protection against a wide range of microorganisms, meeting the requirements of numerous industrial applications.

In the coming years, we will focus specifically on areas with further growth potential, particularly market segments in which we are not yet fully established. Our goal is to consistently expand and further consolidate our high-quality product portfolio, technical support and high service standards in all areas. In doing so, we want to strengthen our market position in the long term and offer our customers sustainable solutions with real added value. A good example of this is the development of our own additives portfolio, which we intend to further develop and establish in the market.
