Gassaway, W.Va. — Employees from STOCKMEIER Urethanes USA — including President & CEO Chris Martinkat, Chief Operations Officer Melissa Martinkat, and Marketing and Communications Manager for the Americas Nastausha Hefner — recently toured the facility of Mountaineer Food Bank, a leading hunger-relief organization in West Virginia and a Partner Food Bank of Feeding America. The visit underscored STOCKMEIER’s ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity in the state.

During the tour, the group was guided by Rebecca Conrad, Foundation Relations Officer and Kelsey Mosely, Volunteer Coordinator, at Mountaineer Food Bank, who provided insight into the organization’s mission and operations.

Mountaineer Food Bank is the largest emergency food provider in West Virginia, working to ensure that families, children, seniors, veterans, and individuals at risk of hunger have access to nutritious food. The nonprofit distributes food and essentials through a network of more than 450 partner agencies across 48 counties, and it annually provides millions of meals to neighbors facing food insecurity.

As part of its philanthropic site goals — focused on reducing food insecurity in the Mountain State — STOCKMEIER Urethanes USA donated $5,000 each to two key programs operated by Mountaineer Food Bank:

  • Mobile Food Pantry Program This initiative brings fresh produce, dairy, pantry staples, and other nutritious items directly to communities that have limited access to traditional grocery stores. Volunteers and staff distribute food in drive-through style events, helping families who might otherwise struggle to reach food assistance.
  • Veterans Table ProgramDesigned specifically for West Virginia’s veterans, this program provides monthly food boxes with no income requirements or questions asked. It aims to ensure that those who served the country do not have to struggle for their next meal and offers pet food distribution in some areas to support veteran companions.

“We were honored to visit Mountaineer Food Bank and learn firsthand about their work to fight hunger throughout West Virginia,” said Melissa Martinkat. “While deciding what we wanted to focus on this year, we understood that food insecurity in many communities in West Virginia was a major need. We are proud to support programs that bring healthy food directly to people in need — particularly veterans and families in rural areas.”

Rebecca Conrad thanked the STOCKMEIER team for their support and noted that partnerships with local businesses are vital to sustaining Mountaineer Food Bank’s impact across the state.

Food insecurity is a persistent challenge in West Virginia, where many households face limited access to affordable, nutritious food. Organizations like Mountaineer Food Bank play a crucial role in closing that gap, providing resources and support to communities in every region of the state.
