Additives

High-performance additives for paints, varnishes, construction chemistry and adhesives

Rheological agents

Mineral products

In addition to various organic products available on the market, different mineral products can also be used as rheological agents. Along with the expected functionality from polar to non-polar systems, these products also display different advantages.

Advanteages to you:

  • Usable in a very broad range of temperatures
  • Compatible with high and low pH value ranges
  • Partial insensitivity to high electrolyte concentrations
  • No increase to the organic portion

Other additives

The following products are particularly suitable for use in paints and varnishes, adhesives and in construction applications:

  • Defoaming/deaerating agents
  • Silicone-free defoaming agents
  • Silicone defoaming agents
  • Hydrophobing agents

Silicates

Designation PropertiesFunctionalities
SepiolitesAcicular, non-swellingRheological additives, for polar systems, high structural viscosity, formation of chain-like particulate networks, more effective than attapulgite, increased resistance to cleaners and abrasives, reduced tendency to adhere in grouts and mortars, improved flow, reduced sedimentation tendency, usable in pH range from 3-14, minimal sensitivity to electrolytes, require high shear forces to disperse
Organo-sepiolitesAcicular, non-swellingRheological additives for non-polar to medium-polar systems; high structural viscosity; formation of particulate networks, more effective than attapulgite, increased resistance to cleaners and abrasives, reduced tendency to adhere in grouts and mortars, improved flow, reduced sedimentation tendency, usable in pH range from 3-14, minimal sensitivity to electrolytes, require high shear forces to disperse
AttapulgitesAcicular, non-swellingRheological additives for polar systems, high structural viscosity, formation of chain-like particle networks, not as effective as sepiolite, increased resistance to cleaners and abrasives, reduced tendency to stick in grouts and mortars, improved flow, reduced sedimentation tendency, usable in pH range from 3-14, minimal sensitivity to electrolytes, require medium shear forces to disperse, cost-effective
BentonitesLamellar, main component montmorillonite, swellablehigh structural viscosity, good to excellent thickening effect, massive water absorption with simultaneous swelling, sensitive to electrolytes, reduced tendency to stick in grouts and mortars, improved flow, massive reduction of sedimentation tendency, for aqueous and highly polar systems only, easily dispersed, cost-effective
Organo-bentonitesLamellar, main component montmorillonite, swellablehigh structural viscosity, good to excellent thickening effect, massive water absorption with simultaneous swelling, sensitive to electrolytes, reduced tendency to stick in grouts and mortars, improved flow, massive reduction of sedimentation tendency, depending on surface treatment for non-polar or for medium to highly polar systems, activation may be necessary in certain circumstances.
