Busy bees for STAUB & CO. – SILBERMANN

Some new workers moved into the company premises at STAUB & CO. – SILBERMANN last Thursday: three queen bees and their colonies.

Employees of STAUB & CO. - SILBERMANN as well as Kindergartners and educators gathered around the beehives

Ever since the Bavarian referendum on biodiversity, saving bees has been the topic on everyone’s lips. But the referendum was not the reason for the decision to set up bee hives on the company grounds. “Sustainability and protecting and conserving our environment is very important to STAUB & CO. – SILBERMANN. Everyone can do their bit,” says Andreas Frank, Managing Director of Staub-Silbermann. “Our site in Gablingen is very expansive and green, so the idea to make space for bees made sense.”

Together with beekeeper Thomas Ehinger, it was decided last year how many bee colonies would be established and where in the grounds would be the best spot for them. There is plenty of food for the bees in the nearby area. Some of the green spaces will be redesigned in the course of various construction projects on the grounds. More of the flowering plants preferred by bees will be planted there, so that they can gather nectar directly on the company site. Beekeeper Thomas Ehinger is pleased: “If the weather is on our side, we will be able to harvest the first honey in late May.”

Kindergartners discover the world of bees

The bee project resulted in the idea to create a themed week all about bees, together with St. Martin’s Catholic Kindergarten. The kindergartners learned all kinds of interesting facts about bees. As part of the themed week, the children were allowed to paint two of the three bee hives. “You can’t go wrong with a little color,” says Andreas Frank. “The hives look splendid and really stand out among the trees!”

The kindergartners were proud of their work and personally brought the bee hives onto the company grounds. The move of the bees into their new home was celebrated with games and snacks. Every child received a small flower pot with a sunflower seedling as a little thank you gift, so the bees can visit them at home too.
